Kirkintilloch Horticultural Society

Meetings 2023/4

The meeting room at Enterprise House has been booked for the following dates - third Thursday of the month at 19:30 (except for December which is a week earlier due to proximity to Christmas).

The meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month at 19:30 until about 21:30. The meetings usually consist of a welcome chat, a talk/presentation with Q&A, a raffle (bring a prize) and then tea, coffee and biscuits.  Sometimes there is a special event such as an informal show.

21 September 2023

Jim Little from Caurnie Soaperie will speak on herbs and their place in naturopathic remedies and soaps. The Caurnie Soaperie in Kirkintilloch first opened in 1922. The aim was simple: to create Scottish natural skin care products from organic herbs and essential oils. Jim will tell us more about this and maybe bring some of his products should anyone be interested in buying.

19 October 2023

CANCELLED due to Storm Babet - Bob will talk to us sometime in the New Year

Bob Robertson will give a talk on “GROWING HYDROPONICS”.  Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without soil and you can grow hydroponically all year long.  Bob grows begonias this way so this sounds very interesting.

16 November 2023

We don’t have a visiting speaker booked for this meeting so have planned short talks by three members.  Paul Malcolm will talk about a visit he made to Geilston garden near Helensburgh.  Wendy Bryson will talk about a garden she and Adam visited in northern France.  Andrew Lothian will also give a short talk - subject to be confirmed.  They will have photos to share so it should be an interesting and informative evening.

14 December 2023

Our Christmas meeting.  This year we are planning a Christmas Quiz as last year's was so much fun.  There will be a £10 Secret Santa followed by our usual mince pies and mulled wine!!

Please put the following dates in your diary and keep an eye on this page.

18 January 2024

The risk of inclement weather at this time of year might cause a booked Speaker to need to cancel so the management committee have decided that the content of this meeting will be a demonstration and practical information, hosted by Andrew Lothian.
