Meetings 2024/5

The meeting room at Enterprise House is booked for the third Thursday of the month (October 2024 to May 2025) at 19:30 until about 21:30. The meetings usually consist of a welcome chat, a talk/presentation with Q&A, a raffle (bring a prize) and then tea, coffee and biscuits.  Sometimes there is a special event such as an informal show.

This page will update as events/meetings are confirmed.  The following informaiton may change as the year progresses.  Details of Spring Shows and outings to follow.

A summer outing to Culzean Castle, Maybole, has been arranged for Thursday the 18th of July

We will leave from Lenzie Rail Station at 9.30am and return from Culzean Castle at 4pm to arrive back to Lenzie for approximately 5.45.

Thursday 17 October 2024

The speaker will be David Menzies who will talk to us about the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2006 - 2024.  David is from New Zealand and has specialised in Orchid cultivation & botany since 1970.  He was a specialist orchid grower at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew, for 12 years and Orchid specialist then assistant curator at Glasgow Botanic Gardens for 16 years. He is also a world renowned judge of orchids.

Our speaker this evening will be Frazer Henderson, talking about Socotra - the land that time forgot.  Socotra is an island in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Yemen.  Frazer has traveled widely, participating in botanical exploration in many parts of the world.

This is our Christmas Special, a quiz hosted by our resident Quiz Master Andrew Lothian, a Secret Santa and last but not least mulled wine and mince pies!

Our very own Robert Sherlock will talk to us about everything fruit trees.  He is currently studying for a City & Guilds qualification in fruit tree cultivation and husbandry.

Note this is a week later than our usual meetings because it is our Annual Dinner.  This year we are booked at The Broadcroft Hotel, David Donnelly Place, Kirkintilloch.  Details about menu, price etc to follow.

Jim Jermyn will speak to us and his talk is titled Branklyn Garden - A Legacy to Mr and Mrs Renton.  He recently spoke on this subject to the Cumbernauld Garden Club which was enjoyed by their members.

Our speaker will be Nancy Stevens whose talk is entitled Poppies, Peacocks and Parterres - Gardens of Scotland.  Nancy is a keen amateur gardener and journalist, she is also a former Chair of Baldernock Gardening Club.
