Meetings 2025/6
The meeting room at Enterprise House is booked for the third Thursday of the month (October 2025 to May 2026) at 19:30 until about 21:30. The meetings usually consist of a welcome chat, a talk/presentation with Q&A, a raffle (please bring a prize) and then tea, coffee and biscuits. Sometimes there is a special event such as an informal show.
This page will update as events/meetings are confirmed. The following information may change as the year progresses. Details of speakers will be added as they are confirmed. Arrangements for the Spring and Summer outings to follow.

Dr Stan da Prato is our speaker and his talk is entitled “Crimes behind the compost heap: the shocking truth about life and death in your garden”
Stan’s background is varied and interesting. He is Chairman of the Advisory Group for Aberlady Bay Nature Reserve and a past president of the Scottish Ornithologists’ Club. He also edits the journals Scottish Birds and The Caledonian Gardener.
He was secretary of the Scottish Begonia Society and is a judge for Beautiful Scotland. He helps several community gardening groups in the Lothians.
He has a Community Champion award from the RHS and was awarded the Andrew Duncan Medal for service to Scottish horticulture from the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society.
He has been the Scottish Rock Garden Club plantsman of the year since 2010 and has won many first prizes at flower shows.

Our speaker will be Frank Fraser who will talk to us about Dahlias.
One of Scotland’s foremost “Dahlia Men”, Frank lives in Milton of Campsie and has a decades-long passion for growing and showing Dahlias. He is an experienced judge, accredited as such by the UK’s National Dahlia Society and was awarded the Society’s Silver Medal in 2024 in recognition of his work promoting the work of the Society and interest in Dahlias more generally.

This is our Christmas Special, perhaps a quiz hosted by our resident Quiz Master Andrew Lothian, a Secret Santa and last but not least mulled wine and mince pies!

Our speaker will be our own Robert Sherlock who will talk about grafting, with particular reference to fruit trees.

Our speaker currently tbc. We usually hold the first of our Spring Shows at this meeting. There will be no judge. Instead each member will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite exhibit. The classes for the Spring Shows are as follows:
1 : 1 flowering plant
2 : 1 container Hyacinths
3 : 1 container Crocuses
4 : 1 container Narcissi/ Daffodils
5 : 1 container Tulips
6 : 1 container Cacti or Succulents
7 : 1 container living plants
8 : 1 container Primula/ Polyanthus
9 : 1 container Spring cut flowers

We try and keep the formal part of this meeting as short as possible. Then we can move on to the cheese and wine much faster!
