Kirkintilloch Herald Report 26 August

Added at 11:24 on 26 August 2025

Our last members’ meeting took place in May when we held our AGM and elected a new committee. This was followed by a sociable cheese and wine evening.
Although the weather could have been better for our summer outing in July, we all really enjoyed our trip to Pitlochie House Garden at Gateside which was open under Scotland’s Garden Scheme. A restoration project over the last seven years, the garden continues to be developed with lots of different areas incorporating quirky sculptures and pots amongst the wealth of flowers, foliage plants and trees. Our welcoming host Fay Orr provided us with a sumptuous afternoon tea after our tour of the gardens.
We had also visited Loch Leven’s Larder for coffee and the village of Falkland on the way to Gateside.
We are now looking forward to holding our annual flower show in St. Mary’s Parish Church Halls, Cowgate, Kirkintilloch on September 6. As last year, it will be held in association with Glasgow and District Fuchsia Society. There will be a tearoom and tombola. Doors open at 2pm with admission by donation, plus a charge of £3 (adults) and £1 (children) for those using the tearoom.
As in recent years there will be no membership fees or charges for entries, and certificates will be awarded for the best exhibit in each class. Show schedules for exhibitors which include the rules and classes for each entry can be found here https://www.kirkintillochhorti.org.uk/2025-flower-show-6-september
Schedules will also be available from the William Patrick Library, Caulders and other local businesses. Anyone looking for more information about the Society can call Paul Malcolm on 0141 578 1520 or view our pages on this site.
