 Minutes of Committee meeting of Kirkintilloch Horticultural Society held on 18th June 2026 .

1 :Present :  R. Hatcher, I.Hatcher, W. Bryson, A. Bryson, R. Sherlock, A. Carswell, M. Gibb, P. Malcolm.  Apologies : - A. Lothian, C. Robertson

2: President’s Report - Paul stated that both judges are now booked for the annual show.  Grant Farquharson has agreed to judge this year.
Enterprise house has been booked for the next session.  
Paul stated that he had received a request from Kirkintilloch Community Council asking if we could help maintain some of the flower beds in the town. Paul had replied that unfortunately the Society was not in a position to help. No-one else present thought any different.
Paul thanked Adam for printing the schedules for the annual show.

Paul enquired about who had various pieces of equipment. This was confirmed after the meeting and will be minuted at the next meeting.


3:  Treasurer’s Report -  Robert stated that 15 members have so far renewed their membership for the new session. Two lots have recently been paid to EDC for use of Enterprise House.
Independent Examiner. Neil Anderson has kindly agreed to carry on with this. This was proposed by M. Gibb and seconded by A. Bryson.


4 : Social Secretary’s Report : Wendy stated that she has booked the bus for our annual outing to Scone Palace on 19th August. So far 19 people have confirmed that they will be coming. It will cost £10.15 to visit The garden or £15.75 to visit the Palace and garden. This is a discount which the Society has been given. The cost of the bus for each person will depend on how many people come on the trip.

Wendy informed the meeting that ten people have volunteered for the tea room for the annual flower show. Wendy suggested having a baking stall due to the amount of baking that has been received  over the past couple of shows. The committee agreed to this.

5 : Press Secretary’s Report - Margaret stated that the Kirkintilloch Herald had printed everything which she has submitted. She will be putting in some information about the annual flower show nearer the time. 

6 : Speakers' Secretary’s Report - Adam reported that he will become involved with the web site with regards to the speakers’ programme. The next session’s programme has been settled until the meeting in February.   Paul will talk about  several gardens he visited in the Scottish Borders ( and one in Northumberland)  at the January meeting.

7 : Web Secretary’s Report - Isabel told the meeting that since the AGM there had been 300 views on our Facebook page and 30 views on our website. There were no comments on either page.
There was a discussion about what should happen when we have a question/ query sent to the web page . It was decided that in future Paul will email the members with the question ( if Appropriate ) to try and get an answer and reply back to the sender as soon as possible.

8 :  Annual Flower Show -  Paul has booked the hall. Paul will see to getting a poster designed and printed. Paul will ask Andrew to print off 200 new exhibitors cards. At present there are ten people who have volunteered for the tearoom. Bob took some schedules which he will take to Homegrown Garden Centre. As mentioned above we will have a baking stall and both judges have been booked.

9 : AOB - Seed library, Bob and Alan will speak to the members about this at the October meeting.
            - Robert informed the meeting that the SGF could be folding soon due to a lack of volunteers. The present committee are all set to resign. Robert stated that if this happens then we will have to look elsewhere for insurance for public liability.

               The meeting ended at 8.30pm.
